Statement of Cash Flow Direct Method

In this presentation, we will take a look at the statement of cash flows using the direct method. Here’s going to be our information we got the comparative balance sheet, the income statement and some additional information. And we will use this information to put together our worksheet which will be the primary source used to create the statement of cash flows using the direct method. This is going to be our worksheet. Now most of this worksheet will be similar to what we have done for the indirect method, in that we took the difference in the balance sheet accounts. So we’re taking the current year and the prior year, the current period, the prior period, all the balance sheet accounts, we’ve got cashed down to the retained earnings for the balance sheet accounts. But we’re also in this case going to give us the income statement accounts for the current period. So in other words, we’re going to break out the retained earnings the amount to its component parts, meaning we’ve got net income being broken out on the income statement. We’ve got sales cost of goods sold, the income statement accounts. So it’s going to be our same kind of worksheet here, we’re going to be in balance, we’ve converted it from a plus and minus format, we’ve removed all of the subtitles as we did under the indirect method.

Statement of Cash Flow Indirect Method Change In Accounts Receivable

In this presentation, we will continue putting together the statement of cash flows using the indirect method focusing here on the change in accounts receivable. The information will be a comparative balance sheet, the income statement and some added information we will be focusing in on a worksheet that was composed from the comparative balance sheet. So here is our worksheet. So our worksheet that we can pay that we made from the comparative balance sheet, current period, prior period change. So we have all of our balances here for the current period, the prior period and the change, we have put in this change. And this is really the column that we are focusing in on we’re trying to get to this change in cash by finding a home for all other changes. Once we find a home for all other changes. We will get to this change in cash the bottom line here 61,900. The major thing we’re looking for is right here. We’ve already taken a look at the change in the retained earnings. And the change in the accumulated depreciation. Now we’re going to look at the changes in current assets and current liabilities.

Classification of Cash Flows

In this presentation, we will take a look at classifications of cash flows on the statement of cash flows, there’s going to be three major categories on the statement of cash flows. Those will be operating activities, investing activities, and financing activities. So our goal here, when we go through the statement of cash flow as we work through the statement of cash flows is going to be in part to decide which area these cash flows should go, should they go into operating, investing or financing. It’s going to be common questions and common problems and really just information we need to know when reading the statement of cash flows. So we’ll start off with the operating activities. We’re just going to look at the major components of the cash flows within the operating activities. So we’ll talk about inflows and outflows. Remember what we’re talking about here is cash. So when we’re talking about the statement of cash flows, we’re talking about cash flows, the cash that goes into the company, they cashed out goes out to the company. We’re going to talk about inflows and outflows here related to operating activities. Before we go into the list of inflows and outflows related to operating activities, we want to know first, that operating activities is going to be similar to us thinking about the income statement on a cash basis. So when we think about the operating activities were really thinking or one way to think about it would be that if we were to have the income statement on a cash basis, then what would the inflows and outflows be that’ll basically be what are in the operating activities when we get to the thought process in terms of how to determine operating investing and financing activities.

Allowance Method % Accounts Receivable vs % Sales Method

In this presentation, we will be taking a look at the allowance method for accounts receivable focusing in on the calculation of the allowance for doubtful accounts. There are two methods that can be used in order to calculate the allowance for doubtful accounts accounts. One being the percentage of accounts receivable, the other is the percentage of sales, we will take a look at them both and look at the pros and cons of them. First, we’re going to look at the accounts receivable method. We’re going to start off with the percentage of accounts receivable method for a few different reasons. One, it’s the one that’s most often tested. And two is the one that may be most often used in practice often making the most sense to people that are looking at the two methods. It’s also a bit more complicated. So when we’re looking at test questions, they typically would focus on this method in order to have a bit more complicated process to do the calculation.

Receivables Introduction

In this presentation we will take a look at receivables. The major two types of receivables and the ones we will be concentrating on here are accounts receivable and notes receivable. There are other types of receivables we may see on the financial statements or trial balance or Chart of Accounts, including receivables, such as rent receivable, and interest receivable. Anything that has a receivable, it basically means that someone owes us something in the future. We’re going to start off talking about accounts receivable that’s going to be the most common most familiar most used type of receivable and that means something someone, some person some company, some customer typically owes us money for a transaction happening in the past, typically some type of sales transaction. So if we record the sales transaction, that would typically be the way accounts receivable would start within the financial statements, meaning If we made a sale, we would credit the revenue account, we’ll call it sales. If we sell inventory, it would be called sales. If we sold something else, it might be called fees earned, or just revenue or just income, increasing income with a credit, and then the debit not going to cash. But going to accounts receivable.

First In First Out (FIFO) Periodic System

In this presentation we will discuss first in first out or FIFO using a periodic system as compared to a perpetual system. As we go through this, we want to keep that in mind all the time that been that we are using first in first out as opposed to some other systems lastin first out, for example, or average cost, and we’re doing so using a periodic system rather than a perpetual system. Best way to demonstrate is with examples. So we’ll go through an example problem. We’re going to be using this worksheet for our example problem. It looks like an extended worksheet or large worksheet, but it really is the best worksheet to go through in order to figure out all the components of problems that deal with these cost flow assumptions, including a first in first out lastin first out, or an average method, and using a periodic or perpetual for any of them.

Perpetual & Periodic Inventory Systems

In this presentation, we will compare and contrast the perpetual and periodic inventory systems as we track inventory through the accounting process. First, we’re going to look at the perpetual system, the system we typically think of when recording transactions that deal with inventory. So if a transaction doesn’t say it’s using a periodic or perpetual system, you probably want to default to the perpetual system. We have here the owner, we have the customer, we’re saying that we’re selling this inventory this Inc for a cost of 8450. To the customer, the customer is not paying cash but pain, an IOU to the owner. Typically, under a perpetual system. We break this out into two components one, the IOU, or the accounts receivable or sales component. The component similar to what would be seen if we were not selling merchandise but a service company.

Lower of Cost or Market

In this presentation we will discuss the concept of lower of cost or market. We will define this concept first and then see it and talk about how it would apply to inventory. The definition of lower of cost or market according to fundamental accounting principles, while 22nd edition is required method to report inventory at market replacement cost when that market cost is lower than recorded cost. So, what we’re saying here is we have we’re talking about the inventory, of course, and we’re saying that we have to record it at the replacement cost. When that replacement cost that market cost is lower than the recorded cost, what we actually purchased it for. So this looks like a confusing type of definition. However, it’s pretty straightforward. What we’re applying here is going to be the conservative principle meaning that if our inventory has declined in value, we have to record it at the lower cost. We don’t want to be overstating our income mentoree obviously regulations are very concerned about us overstating something, when we’re talking about an asset, and making the financial statements look better than they would rather than understating it.

Inventory Methods Explained and compared FIFO LIFO 15 600

Hello in this lecture we’re going to talk about estimating inventory methods methods such as first in first out last in first out and the average method. Last time we talked about specific identification when we were selling the inventory of forklifts. We use specific identification meaning we had an ID number for each particular forklift and knew exactly which forklift we sold and the cost of that particular forklift. reason that makes sense for forklifts is because they’re relatively large, they could be distinct in nature, and they have a fairly large dollar amount in comparison to other types of inventory. If we’re selling something else, like coffee mugs over here, we may have a large amount of coffee mug they may be all completely the same.
